BAP Almirante Grau (CLM-81) is a De Zeven Provinciën -class cruiser that served in the Royal Netherlands and Peruvian navies. Completed for the Dutch in 1953 as HNLMS ''De Ruyter'' (C801), she was acquired by Peru in 1973 and served as fleet flagship. BAP Almirante Grau is the third out of four Carvajal -class frigates ordered by the Peruvian Navy in 1973 and originally named Montero. Originating as a warship for the Dutch Navy in 1953 (HNLMS De Ruyter (C801) (detailed elsewhere on this site), Almirante Grau BAP Almirante Grau is a modified and modernized cruiser of the De Zeven Provinciën class (also called Eendracht-class) light cruisers. The two ships of the class were built by Rotterdamsche Droogdok Maatschappij (RDM) and Wilton-Fijenoord for the Royal Netherlands Navy (Koninklijke Marine) and they were laid down in 1939. Cruiser BAP Almirante Grau (3,100t, circa 1907, 2x6inch guns), destroyers of BAP Villar and BAP Guise, and an R-class submarine of the Peruvian Navy during naval maneuvers in 1940.

Both were purchased by the Peruvian Navy the same year they were decommissioned in the Netherlands, and were re-named the BAP Almirante Grau and BAP Aguirre, respectively. The Aguirre was soon after laid-up for the removal of her Terrier launchers, and the aft deck was in their place converted into a landing pad for 3 helicopters.
